Working in a hotel- Kids-animation

That’s how it really is

Yes, actually .. the first three weeks have passed. Or better said .. vanished. And have you settled in? Are you feeling well? How is it like? I am asked these questions so often here in the Club Hotel. Of course, you always answer "Sure. Everything is great" Because nobody really wants to know how it really is. There is no time for that here anyways. Because our day is quite clocked. Everyone constantly looks at the clock to be in the right place on time. How often do I sprint from the program into the catacombs, our room in the basement, shower for 2 minutes and run out of my room half-naked to be standing at the buffet in cooking clothes 10 minutes later? The trick is not to let the guests feel this. They are at least aware of what is going on behind the scenes here. But well, when you think about it, my answer is really: Sure. Sure, I feel good and I've settled in. My closest team makes a big contribution to this. We are a well-rehearsed team in the Robyclub (Kids club) and we are together almost all day. We look after the children together. We eat together. We live together or next to each other. We spend the evenings together. And even on days off, we are together. Therefore the three of us in our Team grew together like a small "family". I've never spent more time with anyone than with Kali and Nicola. No joke.

Last week I had a meeting with the head of the family department who asked me how I was doing, how I was getting on with all the new things and he also gave me a little feedback. I have to mention that I have already arrived sick, so of course my health did not improve with all the activities. But to the worse. Friday evening, after we set up 50 tables and beer benches at 42 degrees in the shade, I got a fever. I was just missing that, right? My roommate kindly fed me, Nicola took over my bar service at night and on Saturday I was allowed to cure myself so that I slept through 14 hours. There is no time to be sick here. And then it was time for my first feedback meeting. My supervisor told me that many of the newcomers in the hotel industry were initially overwhelmed with the tasks we get. A new environment, away from family for the first time, really working for the first time and lots of new rules and experiences. I knew what to expect and I was probably already well prepared through my first experiences in gastronomies and also through backpacking. So it wasn't too difficult for me to get started. Still, the first few weeks were exhausting and demanding. Working at a vacation spot also means that the guests don't want you to quit work at 5 p.m. and leave their rooms, but want to be entertained until late at night. One of our rules is therefore to be present until midnight and to talk to the guests. I don't think it's a secret that a lot of work and childcare is not only fun. But we mostly have a lot of fun doing it.
